耿傑生 KENG Chieh-Sheng
Born in 1989, Keng Chieh-Sheng graduated from the Department of Fine Arts, Taipei National University of the Arts and the Graduate Institute of Sculpture, National Taiwan University of Arts. He now lives and works in Banqiao.
The texture of wood dominates Keng’s practice of art. Earlier on, he carved human sculptures to reflect how people survive in a modern society, and he now views medium as objects which connote his understandings of reality, trying to explore the ever-changing relationships between humans and objects.
Keng’s works can be put into two main categories: One of them are art pieces made of wood, and another, mixed media. In his works made of wood, he experiments with wood mortise and tenon joints and the invisible force playing a part in them, with which he creates human sculptures within certain frameworks to redefine human’s position in the world. As for his mixed media art, he re-examines how audiences confront artworks to see how human bodies “read” and recognize the world, as well as what roles objects play in the process.
