STATEMENT
Subtle light emerges from the cracks around the leaf tips. Morning and night blend at the corners of the house. I place my emotions in the traces, which form a growing atmosphere, diffusing various languages born from external factors, like signs of time and cultures. Papers of embrittled fibre, fragments of broken ceramic, flakes of fallen wall mould, morning markings of the night’s sleep...
I repair all the fragile and delicate borders I have picked up, making up for the leaking cuts before steadily moving towards the blink of encounter.
"Whish", PENG Si-Qi Solo Exhibition
Five AM in the morning: with eyeballs rolling restlessly underneath the eyelids, I listened to my partner’s sound sleep at another end of the pillow, neighbour’ clattering steps coming from the wall, toilet flushes, starting noise of the motorbike, pigeons cooing — translucent sounds filled the four-ping-foot room lit in sun dust.
Recreating the remnant sounds, noises, even the dust of the residing space in memory, the noise installation draws up travelling interconnections, outlining events that penetrate the ear and disappear without a trace. This exhibition follows the relationship of two persons, whose works interlock hidden messages which disassemble and expand, recollecting an image of home and the marks of life. The echo next door perhaps alludes to the gathering at the pores, the sound of — whish.
