STATEMENT
“ Infra-Image ” , HO Kun-Han
The contents of the exhibition, including “light”, “sound”, “architecture”, and “objects”, provide unique forms of aesthetic stimulation within the exhibition space. These stimuli are received directly through the brain rather than being received through the sensory organs. The brain processes this input and transmits it to the retina and skin through the nervous system, resulting in visual and perceptual “recognition,” which Marcel Duchamp referred to as the subtle difference in bodily experience between “actual perception” and “illusory perception”, known as “infra-mince”.
The perception of the body is shaped by the observer's interpretation, which is based on their own experiences and aesthetics, rather than relying on actual perceptions. This unique aesthetic experience expands the viewer's perception and cognition, encouraging them to think and reconstruct their sensory experience.

“ Phantasm ”, TUAN Mu
“Phantasm” is Tuan Mu's first solo exhibition based in Taiwan. The title refers to the duality of an existential state in a simulated space, physical and virtual, which is a specific phenomenon of this era. With modern technology, our body and what we physically perceive can be simulated digitally, seamlessly interacting with virtual objects in the same environment. In the perspective of post-humanism, we are constantly in a transition to a substance more virtualized and scattered. Consequently, we are no longer in charge of our autonomy, but instead having temporary access to it.
This exhibition will present two VR works and one dual-channel video installation. Unlike general Virtual Reality occurrences which lead the viewer’s perceptions to a location “elsewhere”, the VR works” Patikulamanasikara” and “Transformation of Things” manifests in contrary with its very own experience of immersion. Through means of the viewer’s virtual body as well as physical body,” Patikulamanasikara” and “Transformation of Things” lets us reflect on our physicality while exploring the “hereness” in virtual space. The dual installation video “Shadow to Substance” draws upon the concept of Chinese gardens as a reference, utilizing two videos at once symmetrically and simultaneously. The viewer then gets taken into a digital realm in a first-person point of view, re-interpreting their physical state in a dualistic manner.
In traditional oriental philosophy, our autonomy can be considered void and transitional; however, this is not negating the importance of ourselves as a subject. Instead, it is to reveal that the exchange between subject and object can be reciprocal. “Phantasm” explores the possibilities of autonomy and physicality through digital means, and further questions how present-day humans can possibly re-perceive themselves in a virtual space.

INFRA-IMAGE │ HO Kun-Han
Born in 1992 in Taipei, Ho Kun-Han has a background in both architecture and media art. He specializes in creating "Site-specific media installations" that challenge the blind spots between audience perception and conscious judgment through the concept of reflexive manipulation. Ho often explores the competition and contradiction between artworks and architecture in terms of image-making and space-claiming. By utilizing site-specific objects and materials, he subverts expectations in a logical but unexpected way, encouraging the audience to rethink the meaning and value of contemporary art and exhibition spaces.
