創作自述
​

“Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,

 Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
 All the king's horses and all the king's men
 Couldn't put Humpty together again.”

“他坐在高高的牆上,重重跌了下來,碎成好幾塊,
國王的人馬怎樣都無法把他拼為原狀*。”


我小時候在一部卡通裡面看到這樣的場景,在那個場景裡面,國王跟旁邊的士兵,在蛋跌下後因為露出了屁股哈哈大笑...,它的蛋殻碎裂一地。
到現在我偶爾會想起來這件事情,無以名狀的令人費解的矛盾的笨笨的甚至不是濃烈的但又不是淡淡的...的...這故事應該還沒有結束,那破掉的蛋在國王跟士兵笑完離開了以後還在原地嗎?
  
這個人物,之後在愛麗絲夢遊仙境裡面又看到它坐在高牆上,跟愛麗絲玩一些莫名其妙的遊戲,它像鬼魂一樣,帶著一種難以言喻的挫敗感,調皮的情緒化的難過的...甚至是驕傲的...遊蕩在我的電視...漫畫書...冰箱、路上的招牌...,甚至有點點像一個不太紅的演員。

卡通裡的角色通常帶有永恆的生命,他們無法死亡或不斷的復活,這次的死亡會成下一次幽默的開始,是無法死透的,永久輪迴…

這顆蛋不知何時開始的,在各個角落,以各種不斷流轉變形的形象,延續這個匪夷所思的寓言……(未完待續)

動畫可謂電影之前的動態影像,它在早期西方的魔術表演中被發明,從此便命定離其光怪陸離、魔幻的特性。而逐格作為動畫的基礎,是標示了動畫生產的如何能與不能。 「蛋蛋ㄉ哀傷 ─這是李亦凡與楊竣傑的展覽」是兩個創作者對於影像生產的關照。在楊竣傑的作品中,他以類比的方式手繪動畫,一種古老且經典的方式生產動畫,以支離破碎的慾望場景、角色的存在與崩解作為思考的切入點,呈現匪夷所思、詭異的日常經驗、潛意識切片。而在李亦凡的作品中,呈現的是對於動畫的後設實驗,是關於敘事與製造本身關係的探究,透過拆解動畫的敘事角度,重新組構,在場景中的場景。 在這個展覽之中以英國民謠中的”蛋人”作為支點,企圖支撐起兩位創作者對於動畫生產的對話。英國蛋人是在不同的動畫作品中不時出現的角色,這位角色每次的出現就一定會支離破碎的死亡。而重複的出現與死亡,正是兩位創作者動畫作品中的共同意象:一個關於永恆的、無限的、輪迴的死亡與復活。

Artist Statement

“Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
 Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
 All the king's horses and all the king's men
 Couldn't put Humpty together again.”

I saw this scene in a cartoon when I was little, where the King and his guards laughed at Humpty Dumpty (the egg) who fall from the wall and revealed its’ bottom…. Its’ shell then broke and scattered on the floor. I will still recall this matter from time to time, an unexplainable and inexplicable paradox, the story that is a little dumb but neither strong nor light. The story should not have ended. Did the broken Humpty Dumpty stay on the same spot after the King and his guards stop laughing and left? This character reappeared again in Alice in Wonderland, sitting on a high wall, playing an anonymous game with Alice. It was like a ghost, bearing an unspeakable sense of frustration, it was naughty, emotional and sad, and even proudly … wondered inside my television, comic books, refrigerator, signboards on the road…and similar to a less famous actor. Characters in a cartoon usually live eternally. They couldn’t die or they constantly reborn, death this time is the beginning of the next humour. They could never really die and live in eternal karma… Humpty Dumpty (the egg) continues this unbelievable allegory, with different images and in different corner… (to be continued)

Animation could be recognized as moving images before film. It was invented during the early stage of Western magic show. And since then, animation was known as strange and magical. Frame by frame as the foundation of animation, indicates how animation production can or cannot. Rest in Pieces – Li Yi-Fan and Yang Jun-Jieh Solo Exhibition reveals both artists thoughts on moving images production. In Yang Jun-Jieh’s work, utilizing hand drawn animation, a classic and old animation technique, integrating scattering scenes of desires and the existence and disintegration of characters, Yang Jun-Jieh presents slices of unbelievable and weird everyday experiences as well as sub-conscious. While in Li Yi-Fan’s presents the meta experiment on animation, exploring relations between narratives and production. Through deconstructing the narrative views of animation and the reconstructing again, Li Yi-Fan re-staged scenes within scenes. In this exhibition, using Humpty Dumpty, the famous character in English folk song as a core, the two artists try to develop a dialogue on animation production. Humpty Dumpty, who often re-occurred in different animations, will definitely break and died every time. The repeating occurrences and deaths are the similar ideology shared by both artists. Both reflect on a matter of the eternal and the infinite, as well as the reincarnation of death and rebirth.
